This Week in Tech: 8-3-12

Facebook continues to garner not-so-great attention in the news.  The folks at FB say they believe there are now more than 83 million illegitimate accounts on the social network.

That's a lot. Details after the jump

Check out Saul Bass's original pitch for the Bell Systems (now At&T) logo redesign from 1969. I mean, WOW!  THIS is how you pitch creative!  Considering digital media obviously didn't exist back than, the amount of thought and work that went in to this presentation becomes mind blowing.  Even if he did have our modern tools, it would still be really, really impressive.  Tools and production means aside, the content  and depth of thought are as good as it gets.  If you have any involvement in the creative industry at all, or if you're on the client side and have had creative pitched to you, take the time to watch this.

Did you know Apple had a clothing line in the 80's?  Well they did.  And it was awesome and full 80's glory!

I've been wanting to see Photoshop style blending modes in CSS for a while now, and it seems like I may soon get my wish (fingers crossed)!

To all of us who spend the majority of our lives in front of a computer screen - and especially to all the youngsters who have grown up on a healthy diet of text messages, Facebook, and youtube - let's not forget the utter importance of interpersonal relationships.  Too much interpersonal time on the computer is not going to bode well for the future of mankind. But, I could have told you that a long time ago.

In other news, I think I may have heard something recently about a new iPhone...but I'm not sure.  Maybe it was just a dream I had.

Also this week, it's hotter than a witch's brew down here in Texas
